I got this in change the other day. I saw some varieties of it on Cuds-On-Coins. It's an Internal Die Break. I thought it was kind of neat, so I'm sharing. What do you think?

Nice! I remember you saying that you were going to post this, glad to finally see it. Did you find a match on COC?

They have three on there. This one only has one extra claw. It looks more like a finger. All have the break under the tail feathers.

Very cool I have been waiting on your post. I like it Great photo taking - it actually looks like it is in flight.

So by the date then, those are die gouges? coop has been educating me on these lately.

Gouges are a little bigger than chips, both are breaks. They are missing areas of the die. Glad ya'll like it.

Quick- list it on ebay for $5,000,000 claiming its a one of a kind double struck rotated 360 in collar DDR struck on an 1971 canadian quarter!

LOL, nice find! Too bad it isn't a DDR!

Yes I hear ya, COTW. Some of those people get carried away on there. Some of them should be carried away. When they tell bald-faced lies, I think ebay should cancel their account. There was one on there the other day, I think it was $35000. I think most people with the capacity to pay that, also have the capacity to know better.

Looks like a die chip. Here is what the normal/fresh dies look like:
