Can't quite make up my mind that is a proof.
Proof coins of this period never had highly polished fields and frosted details.
Take it to a professional coin dealer in Ireland for a better opinion than mine, that it is indeed a proof.

There is a huge difference in the pricing of a lightly circulated business strike, and a pristine proof 1939 Half Crown.

Hi I could be wrong but I don't think that's a proof. There was a proof set in 1939, it housed the coins in in a dark blue near black case. The silver coins were harder wearing then the later coins so they held more details.
Yours also has the same polished finish as my uncirculated 1955 half crown

it's nice to hear from a local

Generally, if you feel around the edge of the coin it will be sharp. It's one of the best ways I've come across checking.
