I thought this roughtcast? coin was Japanese and bought a 1972 Japanese catalogue but could not find a coin of this type. I tried looking on the Net for Chinese or Japanese silver coins and got nowhere. Can anybody set me on the right track?

Nice.

It's a Japanese coin (more technically it could be called an ingot) called a mameita gin, or "bean silver". These were made from the late 1600s until the early or mid 1800s, and silver purity and weight were all over the board.

The stamp is an abstract image of the "god of plenty". Values range from about $20 to over $400, depending on the type.

Presenting obverse and reverse side by side looks an attractive way to present. How is it done?
