Does anyone here know what happened with this variety ? Is is a true variety or tampering. Was on the news.

I was wondering about it's value & rarity if anyone knows.

I don't own one but was curious to know a little more about it

They're all over ebay (suggestively) as in listings: 1970-S Error Quarter...? One is asking $999.00 starting bid with no bids. Still an interesting coin unless they start being minted by the dozens... Those who pay thousands will be a little disappointed.

If anything it would be considered an error (although it's said to have happened on purpose, so not truly an error). A variety would be something reoccurring because of a flaw on the die
