So the crinkly shingle on the left is the culprit (die chip/crack) here? I do see a "camelback" (for want of a better word) feature in your close-up. Is that where the suspected crack is, into which (I assume) the metal of the planchet flowed upon striking?
Your photo of the chimney is harder to tell but it does appear to be raised metal.
