At first I was thinking acid dipped, but the coin appears normal thickness and size.

I think it was blowtorched. Coop had an example in this thread

Or it could be that orange peel thing. I'd wait to see what Coop has to say.

Can't be orange peel, this coin is a copper planchet coin. Orange peel are on the Zincolns.

May have been subjected to heat. I wondered if it was pressed against something, but seeing the same thing inside the bays, tells me that didn't happen. Definitely altered. PSD
