My grandfather had a couple of oddball pennies that I cannot find any information on. Any insight or even speculation would be greatly appreciated. A novelty from a fair, perhaps? The first one is a Lincoln Head penny, 1964, with a playboy bunny symbol stamped into it.

There are a wide variety of counterstrikes out there. Often they are done as part of a celebration or as a novelty.

While there is interest by some on various counterstrikes there is no real numismatic value and in fact they will remove any premium that may otherwise be present for the coin and reduce it to melt value.

Numismatic value isn't the only value that a coin has to any given collector.
This 1964 could be a tribute to the 10th anniversary of Playboy Magazine.
Likewise your 1969 moon for the first moon landing.
Both significant dates for the right collector.
If I had inherited them ,they would be 2X2d and treasured as such tributes.

It's just a regular counterstamp. Or: someone had fun with a playboy bunny stamp and a hammer on this cent. It has no added value, for what I know.

Both of my oddballs are keepers. I was just wondering if they were part of some large, known event or a smaller, let known event.

There is a thread on counterstamps here (with examples of modern coins on recent pages): https://goccf.com/t/126486&whichpage=1

I actually remember these counterstamped Lincoln cents being sold in my younger days, probably early seventies. Back then , & I am uncertain, The seller advertised various designs & sold through the mail. I think it may have been The Johnson Smith Company from Bradenton FL. It could have been advertised in comic books as I used to have an enormous collection, ( 8000) or so). I also use to buy from Littleton & that is a more remote possibility.

My brother believes The Johnson Smith Company sold them. He remembers one with John F. Kennedy's profile facing Lincoln's above the date on obverse.

When done on an otherwise unremarkable cent some counterstamps can add value. someone on ebay who collects counterstamped Lincoln cents might pay a little bit for it. not an offer to buy I would probably pay around .50 for the moon and around a buck for the bunny just for the novelty.
