Just received an email from the Mint outlining the coming changes to the MC program. Here is the webpage.

http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/custo...club-1100006

There will be a 1.5% reward for purchases (except face value products) and chance to purchase coins with low COA number.
(Edited, looks like it is for MC member with platinum level or above).

Guess the MC bucks percentage depends on your MC level. My e-mail says 1.0%. As for low COAs, unless you have 1 or 2, there is little to no premium on reselling. And even then, the number on the piece of paper has artificial value at best.

They are also adding a fourth MC exclusive coin next year.

Strange... mine says 1.5%. I am a platinum plus member this year (2105-2016), but will be downgraded to platinum in July.

Here is the mail I received:

Dear XXYYZZ,

As the end of this Masters Club Program Year approaches on June 30, 2016, we're happy to let you know about a few enhancements to Masters Club benefits for the upcoming Program Year beginning on July 1, 2016 and onward*:

Introducing Masters Club Rewards:
For your participation in Masters Club Platinum during the 2015-16 Program Year, you will be rewarded in August with a beautifully crafted Royal Canadian Mint wooden collector case. As of July 1, 2016, you will earn 1.5% in Masters Club Rewards on every Eligible RCM Product** and you will receive a Masters Club Rewards redemption code***, redeemable for Eligible RCM Products.

More exclusive† coins:
We will be increasing the number of exclusive Masters Club coins from three to four.

Access to low Certificate of Authenticity numbers:
We have selected a number of non-exclusive products for which the lowest certificate numbers will be reserved for Masters Club members. We'll keep you informed about these unique opportunities throughout the Program Year.

Richer content:
To further deepen your collecting experience, we have extended the education and information component of Masters Club, adding a more in-depth monthly e-newsletter with even better online content. Look for exciting new subject matter throughout the year.

Of course, your favourite Masters Club benefits will stay the same:
You still get advance notice and ordering five days before general public launches; exclusive access to coins, contests, and events; and free shipping. When the new Program Year begins on July 1, 2016, the purchase of all RCM products will count toward your membership status for the 2017-2018 Program Year.

Thank you for your continued devotion to the Royal Canadian Mint. You can find all of the Masters Club program details and an FAQ at http://www.mint.ca/mastersclub. In early July 2016, you will receive an email confirming your Masters Club level for the 2016-2017 Program Year, and a link to view the details of your Masters Club membership online. We look forward to continually enriching your collecting experience.

John Moore
Vice-President, Sales

And I am confused by "you will be rewarded in August with a beautifully crafted Royal Canadian Mint wooden collector case", I though only platinum plus members will receive free case? Am I wrong or something changed?

Regarding the free case, all Platinum members get it free. No need to be Platinum Plus to get it. I was Platinum last year and I got the free case.

But Platinum Plus get a free exclusive MC coin. Last year was the Master of the Sky goose coin.

Thanks MoneyPenney. So I will receive another free case. Yay!

And I remember the free coin from last year, I really like the case that came with it, but not so much with the coin itself. :-)

I'm currently platinum and there is no mention of a free case. My e-mail is the same except for the following section.

"Introducing Masters Club Rewards:
Starting July 1, 2016, you will earn 1.0% in Masters Club Rewards on the purchase of every Eligible RCM Product**, redeemable for Eligible RCM Products. You will receive your Masters Club Rewards redemption code*** in August 2016, which will be based on your purchases from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016."

BTW, it looks like we have 90 days to redeem the code. That will be $20 on a $2000 spend. Whoopie.

The free case is interesting, because I believe I already received my free case for the program year 2015-2016 around the beginning of 2016. Although I wouldn't object to receiving another

Nice to hear, that with all changes that we waited for, now it works, and collectors do have an interest to be high level MCs

What does it say on top of the letter, just before your acct#, does it say Master Club Platinum, Gold, or Silver? Or nothing?

Maybe they did not update your status if you only reach the Platinum tier in the last few weeks. They could still be still using info from the old tier.

I personally don't think the changes will increase temptation to buy to gain mc status. It's still better than it is was I suppose, since there is now 1%-1.5% back. But with that being said, I know of at least 1 dealer that offers 5% off all new RCM products. The boxes are very nice and are a nice perk but I've never received the free coin so can't comment on it. I'm still thinking this might be my last year being able to maintain my status since it's so much easier and cheaper to buy in the secondary market than ever before.

I'm sure there is a new policy regarding $X for X coming into play somewhere. I've got to read the fine print.

It will be interesting to see how many fewer sales of the $X for $X coins there will be now. And also how many fewer mc members will remain as a direct result.
With the market being flooded with so many options of coins, and the face value coins no longer being an option, it almost seems silly to spend $2000 to get a free box and advance notice etc.
If you wait a few months to a year and walk into most shops, you can take the same coins plus a couple or few more for the same $2000. I'm just curious to know who buys them from the mint only to sell them to coin shops with such a huge loss.
