I pulled this coin out of pocket change in the sixties. The braid-like protrusion on obv has always mystified me. Any ideas what kind of error this is? Post-mint?

Some closer pictures of the area in question would be helpful.

Looks like a Hangman's noose. Could be a Die Crack or Gouges, Or damage that's worn over. I agree close-up pictures would be helpful.

Thanks to those trying to help. I'm a bit at a loss as to getting a better scan. I'll see if I can improve resolution. Don't have a good camera as alternative.

Have you read the "Posting" tutorial (click upper right, top of page) and experimented with the "Image Optimizer" feature? It may take some practice, but you can preview your efforts.

This is an attempt to get a better image. Just experimenting.

Just cropping it helped. There is a photography forum on here where you can get some good tips. You can get some pretty accurate answers on here, but one or two more notches on picture quality will help a lot.
