Hi just came across this interesting Wheat penny with what looks like a partial plating with Cud or maybe a weird Greaser? Any thoughts?

Looks like heat damage to me, no error here anyway. Wheat cents are not plated. That's only on cents 1982-present

Puzzled a bit from the layers missing or applied. Acid will typically eat away copper, but leave the under lying copper.

Uncertain if I'm seeing something removed or something applied. Thanks, Doug.

definetely damage. As CoinCollector2000 said, cents were plated starting in 1982. To me it looks like something was applied because the devices surrounding the area in question are fully intact.
