Not sure if the spots on this coin should affect the grading. Any help is appreciated.

You really can't grade anything above a 60 on a computer, in my opinion. The "spots" are portions of fingerprints and you can see the smudge on the reverse as well. The spots will normally affect the grade and most certainly the value, so it's certainly not worth getting it professionally graded.

Very nice coin none the less! And you have a piece of history in your hand! Who knows who's finger print that is! Definitely in the MS, but I'm not the best with pennies [:p]

Thanks for the information. I will hold on to this coin for a little while longer. Can't wait for my microscope to come in this week, I want to investigate the finger prints.

Looks to me like it's in the MS62-63 range, obviously need higher quality pictures to narrow it down further.
PCGS will give it RB, they are very strict about that fingerprint toning.
Maybe $3 to $6 USD so not worth getting graded

ICCS 63 Red , PCGS Red Brown . As Greg stated these are 3 to 6 bucks each in the grade you have. Believe it or not these are available in roll quantity and are really only saleable in 65 red or better. MS66 is the finest according to the ICCS report.

Not bad coins, keep them in your folder until something better comes along.

Thinking about cleaning it with acetone.

I had that thought in mind, so I went out looking for some tin cans last night.
Another thing we need to keep in mind is that acetone is flammable.

Acetone will NOT fix that cent . The obverse brown is probably a partial finger print the oil is in the surface. The reverse is just natural tone. Playing with this coin will not help it in any way . All it will do is turn a 6 buck coin into a worthless one . 2x2 it and put it away. A word to all the " Numismatic Scholars " who promote the use of acetone on bronze or copper mint state coins. It has ruined far more than it has helped.

I agree. I had a change of heart. I just got my microscope today so I'm going to take a closer look and then 2x2 it.
