I've acquired many raw coins but this is the first raw thaler that I've gotten my hands on. Granted, it's from the mid-17th century but I'm a little surprised at the variation in the thickness of the planchet (see edge photos) and how well the devices were struck despite the variation.

28.59g 40mm

This came from a German ebay seller. I welcome any opinions on authenticity.

looks authentic to me. I have seen rims like that due to collar unevenness or mounting.

Contemporary clipping or filing of the edge (or both), for the illegal recovery of silver.
Reduces the numismatic value.

This is not a Saxony thaler, but a thaler from Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle, struck in the name of duke Christian Ludwig, who reigned the duchy 1648-1665

Thanks, bart, for the correction. I bought a Saxony thaler at about the same time and mixed up my references.
