Why is this coin so expensive?

There are currently 9 listing on ebay atm, it doesn't seem that rare.

It is a scarce variety. However there is not much demand for expensive PL coins. Particularly overpriced ones. So the listings tend to sit there and accumulate. Compare the asking prices to a price list such as http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri...s-1937-1952. Collectors who are willing to pay double list price are rare as hen's teeth these days.

The coin was never issued for circulation and was only found in numismatic offerings from the RCM in 1951 , 1952.
All known examples are Prooflike in appearance and are obviously from polished, (sometimes heavily ) blanks.
Would love to examine a confirmed circulation strike if it exists.
An educated guess would be less than 5000 pieces struck. Most are still out there as they originally came in sets.
In 2007 I sold a 2 Letter ICCS in PL 66 for stupid money. Today it would sell for a lot less. Realistically 300 CAD would get you a very pleasing example in ICCS PL64.

kuh85 is right these just sit around unsold on ebay, there is little demand.
That said, I have an attractive ICCS PL66 that has no significance for me any more.
How much could I reasonably expect to get for it on ebay?

Thanks for the responses.

I bought a PL65 in a Goeffrey Bell auction in 2014 for $250 start bid + juice/taxes (I was the only bidder)...just filling a variety hole and was kind of shocked to see what some of the prices on ebay were.

And yet another stellar example of why you should never put your coins into a coin auction in Canada. Excellent buy for you though. Most buyers at Canadian coin auctions are dealers.
There are much better ways to sell your coins.
