You have a penny, Adcaswell. Second year they were made. It's hard to tell the condition based on the pictures you have. Editing them usually makes it harder. The value is strongly determined by the condition. It is old but not rare. Under a couple bucks for circulated and worn. Yours looks better than most I've seen in "large cent bins" at coin shops but my grading abilities are sub-par. Welcome to the forum.

The value of your 1859 large cent is determined mostly by the variety. A close up, straight-on picture of the coin is required. There are several 1859 experts on here but they will need to see the date.

I'd be happy to identify the exact variety, and give a grade and price. Just need a picture directly above the coin so it looks like a perfect circle (not at an angle) If you don't have a good camera, maybe ask a friend to use their phone (newer expensive phones preferred ) and then have them email it to you. From afar I can see its likely in the VF-30 to EF-40 Range :) From that first guess I might put it in the $10 CAD maximum price

The straight-down vertical shot that we need should, 1st, be of the reverse (dated) side. If it is not one of the scarcer varieties (and there are many), you have the most common of the Victoria cents worth $5 or less

If you can post good photos, we'll try to help you out identifying the variety. If you can't get good photos, you can find the variety yourself by going to Dr. Haxby's 1859 website and comparing your coin to the varieties listed there. www.vickycents.comFind any obvious features on your coin like die cracks, or doubled letters or numbers, and search for those for a match. Check out the website and give it a try. I think you'll enjoy it. Welcome to the forum!
