For all we know jbuck may have a collection just as nice or maybe better.
As he isn't "In to" slabs, except with a dremal, you just never know

Highly improbable. He'd have had to look through nearly a million mint sets in aggregate and several hundred bags of '71 and '72 Ikes.

A set of this magnitude probably couldn't have been assembled without many sets of hands and eyes.

I've looked through a lot of sets but I can't even touch some of those coins.

Truth. I have neither the time nor the money to accomplish this. If it were really that easy, I would have done it more than once and retired off of the proceeds.

Slabbed Ikes are so reasonable too even in high registry grades for the most part.

Now a lot of these coins in this set just don't change hands that often like the MS69's and such, but even in high registry type grades Ikes can be very affordable. You aren't going to build a number one overall set with affordable coins and probably not many affordable coins will CAC like this collection did, but you can still build a great Ike set on a relatively small budget.

Probably one of the best starter registry sets I can imagine. Probably the first one I tackle if I ever get around to it.

Here are some charts I compiled for the key date 1973 Silver Ikes in Proof and Business Strike near the end of June.

Each yellow dot is one actual sale in that month. Five layers of yellow dots makes a solid color. You kind of get a heat map of transaction prices that way.

Note that many of the coins in the collection for sale haven't been sold on all of ebay in the past 3 months showing how (conditionally) rare some of these guys really are.

Also note how reasonable the key date is even in registry type grades. Sure there are conditional rarities and the like driving value outside of date and mint mark but you can grab a nice PR69 1973 Silver for no more than $40 if you hunt for it.

Thanks, BuckeyeCoinGuy.

This is a point many people just don't get.

Finding these nice coins in the old days wasn't at all easy. It was hard work and it was expensive. Sure you could find lots of mint sets and rolls to look through but most of the coins were junk anbd when you did find something you'd spend several dollars for the set. The '73 set was $40 at one time.

It's actuallymuch cheaper to make nice sets of Ikes now than it was in 1978 since you do9n't have to drive around looking for them. If I had it to do over I'd have saved more money and bought them today.

But then I remember I do have some winners and I did have a lot of fun. It kept me out of mischief and I met a lot people and learned a lot of things.
