Hello Forum Members:
I have a questions about sacagawea coins. I have an sealed treasury bag of 2000-P dollars, I believe that they were struck in Jan of 2000 but am not sure is there any way to know from the markings on the bag. I am aware that the coins are not worth much more then face value but I would like to have some idea if there is a potential that they are "wounded eagles". Also if its better advised to leave them in the treasury bag or take them out to see myself.

to the Community!

The Sacagawea is a one dollar coin. I am not sure if you have a typo, but you are not likely to find them in a sealed treasury bag of quarters.

Pop that sucker open! I believe they were able to estimate the number of quarter-Sac mules at about 12, and they have not all been accounted for. They could be anywhere!

Sadly, if it is a mint bag, it cannot contain any Cheerios dollars.

No problem! I thought it had to be.

I hope someone is able to tell you how to determine the striking date by the bag.

That aside, it would be very difficult for me to not open it. For me, most of the value is getting to see what is inside. I am sure others will advise you differently, so do not do anything hasty.

Is to open the bag and check.

I would 100% open it up. Even if there is nothing out of the ordinary, you have to assume that the bag will at some point be opened. In the mean time, the longer they are all in there, they are moving around on top of each other and could be slightly scratching the surfaces of the coins inside. Personally I would inspect them, and then put them in air tight tubes to better protect them from themselves.
