Wanted a transitional piece to bridge the gap between a genuine Sassanian drachm, and the late imitative Gadhaiya Paisa. This seller had a handful of okay examples, so I put in my chips. Didn't win any because clearly I don't want one badly enough. This one was an outlier, selling for over six times the average price. Is there something special about this one that I am missing? It does have a nice portrait of distinctive Indian style, but personally I would not have gone much above $30 for this one.

I collect Sassanian and Indo-Sassanian coins and I have not seen this type before. It's most likely an unknown and rare ruler that someone is aware of.

Could be.

Are Indo-sassanian coins generally attributable to a specific ruler? I was under the impression they were all simple imitations of Sassanian coins without knowledge of who or what the design elements represent.

Free literature on the subject seems to be sparse at any rate.

There is very little information about these coins, but from what I understand they depict regional governors.
