It looks like there's going to be a mass release of these at Woolworths over the next few weeks:

Does anyone have any idea exactly how this will work?

"These coins will be distributed individually over 5 weeks by 2016 Australian Olympic Team Partner Woolworths who will also be selling a limited amount of these packs"..."and we are very much looking forward to distributing these coins in change to our customers when they shop with us."

Get there early if you want a "pack" it sounds like. Otherwise, buy something that will net you a $2 coin in change at their store(s).

People are going into Woolworths stores and picking up bags of them right now
and although it is against Woolworths policy it seems that not all employees know
or care about policy

I don't think there is a policy, because it's not printed in their catalogue, it's not printed on their website, and the people at my local store just handed over almost every coloured coin they had. I'm unemployed at the moment, so I'll be pretty cranky with them if they make it harder for me next time. I'm got almost none of the early coloured coins in my collection, so I'd much rather collect them now than wait another two or three years when there are none left.
