This was in my dad's collection. '55 S was one he always dreamed of finding in circulation but never did. Anyways I've not a clue where this came from nor what would cause the neat yellowish coloration on the bottom half of the obverse. Improperly mixed alloys maybe? Kinda reminds me of the woodgrain toning on 1908-9 S cents. Hopefully it's visible in this pic, it's much more dramatic in hand!

Not woodgrain but would be a (woody),it's not. Not a mixture issue. I think it is just some nice toning.

Something else I noticed on the obverse is what appears to be a Cud on the first of the two "5"s in the date. Not sure if it shows up in the picture too well.
