The marketing of this item and other similar painted SMLs is somewhat deceptive. While the silver maple leaf is indeed minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the coloured enhancement is apparently completed by a private German Mint and not a true release by RCM. Therefore the accuracy of the statement of 888 mintage is impossible to determine, obviously more could be bought and painted at any given time. Who's to compare #s on COAs? While to some they're interesting and eye appealing as a collector's item, it's doubtful they'd ever greatly increase in value.
Buying collector coin with any thought of it appreciating in value at some point in the future is most often the cause of great disappointment:-)
