I had a friend whose family owned a bunch of vending machines. the ones where you put a coin in and turn the handle and something comes out in a plastic bubble. he said that it wasn't uncommon to go to your machines and some other company would have taken your machines and set theirs up. He said when this happened you would then take their machines and set them up somewhere else. never did ask him about rare or unusual coin finds though.

Perhaps it would be easier to work for a company that owns them and you could count the money. Then you would get paid to look at coins.

My mom used to find silver dimes or quarters when going through the money that came in through the pop machines located outside her establishment. After the coin mechanisms went digital though the silver stopped.

She has had trouble with vandalism people trying to break into the machine for the money or pop.

If the machine breaks down or malfunctions can you repair it? Do you have time to restock the machine(s) as often as needed?

Not trying to pessimistic however I think the headaches and hassle would far outweigh any potential finds.

I own 35 gumball type machines and two pinball machines.

I have found noting of note. I do however fill plastic capsules up with foreign base metal coins, put them in a machine and bring said machine to coin shows.

I bought 2 pop machines about 3 years ago, and lost money on the deal. I would not recommend this idea, unless you are planning on making this a serious business.

I lost the rights to have the machines at park they were at, and I had no way of moving or storing them. Maintenance cost me more than I made the first year.

I had to just walk away from them in the end.
