I am a new member to the site. I have read post on this site for the last year or so, but just joined.

My Father-in-Law keeps all of the pennies in a 5 gallon jar. This last 4th of July, I brought home the jar! So far I have found many AU to BU coins for many years. Main goal is to finish some of the repeat sets I have. I will let you know how it goes.

Picture shows the sheets I use to help sort.

Good luck, Greg73!

Hopefully you'll find some Wheaties too!

Out of curiosity, how long has he been throwing his pennies in this jar?

John-77, I have found some (not as many as hoped). They are the piles in the bottom right corner.

The best my father-in-law can remember was he has been doing this for 20+ years. So every penny he came across has left circulation once he got it. The finds support this. I have found some older LMC that you can tell were pulled from circulation decades ago.

After filling in the extra folders, I will place the remainder keepers in 2x2's.

Cool, Greg...

I'm going to assume that (since I don't see a sheet for S's) you're not on the West coast... Hopefully you'll find some BU examples of the tougher Philly coins like the 1969, and the 1982 Small Dates.

Happy hunting!
