I've got a small box of wheaties that look like they were in dirt/mud. mumble, mumble...

I know you are not supposed to clean coins with anything abrasive or corrosive.
Would steam work? ...I'm thinking of one of those hand held steam machines to blast off the dirt/mud with out abrasives or chemicals.
The brush wouldn't be used ...just steam.
Has anyone tried it?
Yea or nea?

Blasting them with steam could still cause the debris to rub/scratch against the surface. Going by what others here have said, I would soak them in pure acetone; no rubbing! Then rinse them in distilled water. Be sure to test your process on some "junk" coins first before attempting on anything of value.
