So the NGC site seems to be rather useful for estimating a "fair" price for world coins (and to see what coins exist for what years/mints/varities for various entities).

https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide/world/

OK, but just how realistic are the values on this site? I have been using it to gauge "pricing" for some coppers from South Africa, but I have no perspective to know if the "values" on this site are high, low, or "fair."

Does anybody have any perspective on how realistic the values are that are indicated at the NGC World Price Guide website?

What other sites do folks use for price guides or value guides for world coins? I have

Australia-- http://www.allcoinvalues.com/austra...-values.html
New Zealand-- http://www.allcoinvalues.com/new-ze...-values.html
Canada-- https://www.jandm.com/script/getcatalog.asp?CID=3
Britain-- http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/
Britain-- http://british-coin-price-guide.homelinux.com/
Britain/UK-- http://www.allcoinvalues.com/united...-values.html

Yes, I have Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000, but that is cumbersome, non-portable, and I presume kinda like the Red Book for realism of values listed--okay for relative values (this coin is worth more than that coin) but not really realistic for individual values.

TIA

It depends on the coin. NGC's values are sometimes too high, sometimes too low. ebay SOLD listings might offer a better idea of valuations.

When I want to know what a coin does here and now I usually look it up on ebay and comparable auction sites. One of the things I noticed is that it depends very much where in the world you want to sell or buy a certain coin. American coins are generally cheaper here than they are in the USA, for example.

Can confirm the sometimes low, sometimes high. Depends on the country and coin. When selling Mexican coins, they are worth much less than NGC website. On the other hand, some Japanese/Chinese coins on NGC are worth even MORE than what is listed due to increased demand. But I use it to get an idea of value as well. :) ebay is more accurate, like previously mentioned.

NGC's values were copy-and-pasted from Krause, with permission. I don't know how up-to-date their prices are being kept, or if they are using any other data sources other than Krause.
