It has come to my conclusion theres a possibility that US Mint employees are keeping odd looking change and giving them to their kids and grandkids as keepsakes that ultimately gets lost over time or circulated for a joke..

My other thought is that they dont really care and just release anything similar to Chinas standards thus making oddities like this worthless whereas 35 years ago would be considered rare and worth something.

Heres another coin in my possession that shouldnt be...

This penny is same size as a regular penny less the rim damage flatspots in two areas but as you can see the rimedge is twice as thick...LOL

If this indeed isn't a mint error how did this penny come to be?...Another US Mint mystery perhaps or the worlds craftiest vandal?...

I will upload more pictures later after this mysterious penny either stirs controversy as to how it exists or isn't just as interesting as it is to me how I'm holding it after stringent error removals and the hungry for error coins machine;-THE WAFFLER didnt get to munch on it...LOL

Hammered edge or Dryer Coin?
do you have a scale to weigh it. If it weighs right (1.8 grams for post 1982 and 2.5 grams for pre 82) then it is probably one of the two things that I mentioned.

While the rim is taller than normal, it is also thinner. It got pounded.

Mystery solved...Although my pictures kinda differ from the other dryer pics Ive seen I'm satisfied this maybe the same case.....

For the info...The damaged and undamaged 1992 pennies came in at 2.5 grams....My older pennies come in at 3.0 and 3.1

Thanks guys!.......Youve all been a great help.
