Hi everyone, I am not really a coin collector but I have come across a 1951 Canadian penny........Its nickel or nickel plated, I was wondering how common this is?

welcome to the forum. without some more info from you, we wont really be able to help you.

Pictures are great, weight, dimensions, is it magnetic? compared to a regular penny is it different size?

most likely someone was doing a garage job science experiment and plated a penny, but we need more info to really help you.

A copper penny is 3.24 g. If that's the weight of yours, here's a link to a previous thread about how the colour can be changed to silver (science experiment):

Plated coins are more common than some may realise.
Often, they are the result of high school chemical laboratory experiment.
Nickel and copper plating are the most popular.

I've a 1954 and two 58's .
All nickel plated and the 58's are of
the hanging variety .

Other high school science experiments call for pennies to be coated with mercury. If so, mercury EATS gold so don't get it on your wedding ring.
