my LCS just got a 1980 cent struck on a dime planchet in BU shape. I am looking for a value please

these 1980 cent on dime planchet errors seem to be fairly common compared to other years.

any help is appreciated, also, there is one in this beautiful set that our member SPP-Ottawa has created if you guys and gals are unfamiliar with what one would look like/want some eye candy. http://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/sho...aspx?sc=1855

There are various planchets it could be....either a dime or a foreign one. You should do a check with a magnet & scale. If uncertified, I would say it is probably worth $100 to $200. In a PCGS/NGC holder, maybe $50 more if it achieved MS64/65.

Here is a tougher date coin (although lower grade) that has had no takers at around C$425.

thankyou smallcentguy. the coin weighed in at 2.0-2.1 grams as a dime of the time should. it also came in at pure nickel on the XRF they have. there is also a 5 cent there from 1980, it came in at 2.6 grams and is steel, I think it came in at 70-something iron and some other elements. I am not too interested in it as the eye appeal is greatly lacking, but I figured i'd ask if you are familiar with such a thing. I found a sold one on icollector that sold but the info given was extremely vague.

You can look up the planchet characteristics on the web site of foreign coins struck at the mint. The web reference was recently posted on this site.

Here is a another recent listing of seomthing similar. I would say that this one is scarcer than the one you are looking at.

Optimistic price, for an AU grade, on that particular error...
