No luck on die axis, but it's not so important. So here's a different question of greater interest to me:
It looks like the 1909 Kwangtung dollar has Hsuan Tung obviously as emperor denoted by two large Chinese characters within the pearled ring, but the small Mongol legend matches Kuang Hsu.
At first I thought this could be a mistake among the fakes I'm documenting, but now it seems like Kuang Hsu is signified by the small Mongol legend instead of Hsuan Tung on legitimate coins.
Looking at catalog and online images, this is what it looks like to me. Comments pro or con?
In particular the top Mongol word for Kuang Hsu has a distinct line hanging down and to the right at the bottom. Meanwhile the top Mongol word for Hsuan Tung has a very distinct curved "slanted J shape" hanging down to the left.
Is there agreement that LM-138 and Kann-31 appear this way?
