If coins were eliminated altogether,(perish the thought !), What paper money denominations would make the most sense ? If the US used paper money only, Keeping the $1, 5, 10, 20 & $100, ( eliminate the $50 - Than add a 25 cent full size banknote to replace the quarter. Eliminating the cent,(as Canada has done), add a full size 5 cent note (Americans would not want small size notes). Or round to nearest dime & use only a 10 cent and 25 cent note, as half dollars are rarely used & if Canada rounds to nearest nickel, why not nearest dime ? Just thinking.

I don't think coins will disappear completely from circulation. Perhaps one day banknotes will.
Metal coins last longer and are more profitable for govs to produce. Just look at how fast $1 notes circulates and worns down. When we will go cashless we probably just use electronic money and a few coins.
IMO here in Europe any coin under 20 cents has no real role in commerce.

Chances are it will be a digital currency with no coins or notes.

Plastic is the new paper. No, I don't think we will see a return of fractional currency.
