Some of you know I spent last month at a Roman archaeological site in Mallorca, and I got the chance to take a look at and identify some coins that were found there in the 2013 season. This silver piece looked like it may be Republican, and I have no idea where to start in that case. Can anyone help, or at least give me an idea of what to search for?
Thanks, and sorry for the very poor image quality- It's all I could get with my phone camera at the time.

This is going to be a tough one, I'll see if I can come up with something in the morning.

I think, obverse: Helmeted head of Roma right, mark of value "X" behind, and reverse: Dioscuri (Castor and Pollux) galloping right.

You folks beat me to it, I also thought it was the Dioscuri, but was too tired to look last night.

Thanks a lot! Once again, I know these pictures are awful, but I compared the piece to each one in the links posted by Bob L, and I think it may be the third one. I believe I can make out the 'VAR' monogram, although I may just be seeing what I want to see. What do you think? The 'A' appears to be the clearest letter.

It's certainly possible, and does seem the best match from among the ones I linked to. Here's your coin with it, to assist with the comparison:

It's interesting that the coin was struck at the end of the third century BCE, considering that the colony of Pollentia, where it was found, wasn't established until 123 BCE, and it's believed that it was just a military camp for the first 60 years or so after that. I can see that the piece is well worn, but did coins in that time period really circulate that long?
