Always glad to pick up some sterling for a meltish price (actually paid $8 for both). I know the 3 pence is just melt, but is there any numismatic value to the half crown -- even with the many rim hits and gouges on the obverse?

Nice pick up at melt. The 2/6 is worth far more than that.

This NGC link will give you more info. on value as well as the 'melt' value of the 1/2 crown. At a 1/3rd of the catalogue value you made a good purchase. Well done!

If you want to split the purchase as $7.50 for the 1/2 crown and $.50 for the 3 pence, I'm not sure I see what you mean as 1/3 of the catalogue value.

Is this coin VF? The catalogue value is $100 in VF. $7.50 is not 1/3 of $100.

The catalogue value is rarely what you would be able to sell the coin for. If you were able to sell for a third of the catalogue value and you purchased the 1/2 crown for only $7.50 you have done well. That was my point!

No way is the 2/6 VF money...probably less than 50% of F as it has been cleaned.$15 for both is realistic.
