It is considered a WAM but every coin from 1964 is a WAM. The coins to look for are 1998,99, and 2000

Correct. But that is the normal reverse for that time period. It only matters on years where the wrong RDV (Reverse-Die-Variety) was used.

You are mostly looking at the 1998, 1999 and 2000 cents for this issue. These will show on the Philly cents with the wide or Close AM that were incorrect that year. On the Business strike coins they should be the Close AM those years. But some have the Wide AM on them. (just from Philly mint)
Noob-New-Here-From-So-Cal.-WAM-Question
The easiest way to remember these is that that the location of the 'M' will be centered between the AME on the Wide AM and to the left on the Close AM. That is the best way to remember them.

On the proof 1998 and 1999 cents from San Francisco, the opposite happens. On the proof coins they are usually Wide AM. (except for 1993-S which is a Close AM normally on all three mints. (proof and business strikes) These two years had some released with Close AM reverses.

When looking for WAM's don't fixate on the separation between the feet of the A and M. Instead take a quite over all impression of the AME group. Does the M seem to be centered between the A and E, or does it seem to be noticeably crowded over toward the A. Look at copps image that shows the close and wide 1998 cents. Don't "study' the images just take a quick look for an overall impression and the "one centered and the other crowded to the left" should be clear.

Kevin!

And thanks for asking the question--I just learned a lot I did not know previously.

I like to listen to The Great Courses on longer drives, although they can be pricey. CCF is like a Great Courses on Coins, and it's free!
