Hi all

I've discovered that the 1993 50c has a variety. The numerals "1993" of the date is slightly, but quite noticeably, fatter or thicker than the usual 1993 50c's thin date.

The " 1993 " of the date is also slightly flatter, although the " 1993 " is still as clear, but quite clearly not as thin.

Perhaps the die was getting worn during the minting process.

I suppose it could be a similar variety like the Wide Date 1994 50c, which I still wonder how or why the RAM would have used two separate dies for the 1994 50c.

There are one or two of the variety 1993 50c listed on the struggling ebay, and I don't think the sellers, one who has a particularly very nice 1993 50c fat date variety listed, are aware that the 1993 50c have the distinctly fatter/thicker date.

You might like to check them out, and look forward to your thoughts.

I think the far right one is the fat date.

trout 1105, there is definately a " fatter " version of the 1993 50c, as mentioned in my post 4.8.2016. I have few of these in brand new Ch UNC condition which clearly have a thicker date. I've been collecting for 40 + years.

Mine were taken out of circulation as soon as they were released, so the few that I have are brand new.

Can't say the same about the 1985 50c when they were released - complete rubbish coins with varying amounts of pock marks, very poor finish on just about all of them. Could never get even just an aEF one.

I found a fat date 1985 50c earlier this year, but I assumed it was just wear and tear. Maybe I need to check it again, just to be sure.
