I picked up $25 worth, but they didn't have a box. They just gave me the rolls. A majority of them came in the same paper rolls and they all have numbers on them. For example, one roll has "3218131625" on it. Do you think someone had just gone through these and brought them in? I haven't had any luck through the first 5 rolls.. A lot of coppers and one S, but no wheats or anything. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else!

I wouldn't be concerned about the numbers .they look like customer account # .some banks require it when cashing in rolls .

years ago, people wrote their phone number or account number on them. These days I see lots of rolls with the teller number or name on them. The last set of rolls I got from the bank must have came from a (former) collector because each roll was labeled per year and mint mark.

Thanks for the quick response from both of you! Much appreciated, I'm new to this so I wasn't sure...
They're all 90s and before so maybe it's just an old fashioned way of doing things!
Thanks again!

10 digits usually means an account number. Customer wrapped rolls are generally feast or famine when it comes to pennies. I usually have much better luck finding them in the machine wrapped rolls as the unpicked over customer wrapped rolls are very few and far between in my experience.

In my area, area codes are required when making a phone call, so here that would might be a phone number [10 digits: (###) ###-####]. My bank account is only 8 digits [### ## ###].

It's normal practice for a bank to require an account and/or tele number on rolls turned in by customers. I always cringe when I see these on my rolls. Usually the tellers will mark over these numbers for security reasons.
Every single hand-rolled coin roll you will ever purchase has been gone through, and whether or not the roller was looking for certain coins, well that's another thing. Keep up the roll hunting and remember that volume is the key. In my heyday, I was searching $20-$30K in coin per year which might be considered small business to some.

< fistfulladirt > ; I have to disagree with you on your statement that all customer wrap rolls have been gone through . I've said it before and I'll say it again ,in the month of December during the Christmas holiday many people old and young cash in their saved coins to buy presents or whatever . I believe that some of those coins if not many are older and unsearched .

T-BOP, I understand, but what I meant was that if the coins have been handled by human hand, they've been gone through, without having been searched for certain coins. As opposed to machine wrapped, if that makes sense. Thanks.

This is turning into the "machine-wrapped or customer-wrapped discussions" of old. I like the issue very much, but can't come to a conclusion. My assumption is that coins in machine-wrapped rolls have all been handled, unless they are all the same date.

That is a phone number. I called it. I told him I found his rolls. He said keep them, they are culls. Just kidding. Bust seriously, my best finds all came from CWR.

My dad had bought a coke bottle made of PET that was 3 feet tall and originally filled with popcorn. After we ate all the popcorn, he started throwing change into it. For more than 10 years. It had gotten to the point where it could not be moved from its location even by a teenager, so I dragged it into the living room and rolled it all up. It was more than $750. It took the two of us to carry it to Chase Bank in a suitcase.
When we got there, the teller told us to put name and account number on every roll.

I made it through all of the rolls (50). 45 of the rolls had that bank number written on the side. Of those rolls, I found 1 Wheat penny (1941). Three other rolls I had, showed a phone number on the side and found no wheat pennies there. Had 2 machine rolled at the very end and found 2 wheat pennies. Not sure this helps anything, but you all can see my terrible luck
