I have just purchased my first coin, I bought it simply because it caught my eye as artistic. I have a preference for the colour Gold, which gets me in about as much trouble as possible at times (with my Wife mostly :)
But I was intrigued by the stylisation and patina of this coin, it almost seems to be two seperate coins from front to back (I will upload the back in a seperate post.) and the layout of the writing seemed interesting to me too... Well here goes, hopefully you guys dont berate me for being a "swindled mug." And for not heeding your advice first before I payed for an obviously fake coin...?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any and all assistance on this one.
Paullie.

Staff Note: *** The following was copied from their separate posts. Please keep everything in one topic. ***

This is the reverse side of my first ever coin, I cant even make out exactly what language it is?... My first thought was Latin, but it must be abbreviated? I cant recognise a date? The Fluer de lys describe it as possibly French? But I wonder who that character is on the Horse? Heh heh... Maybe I will just leave it to you guys, all I am doing is describing my ignorance to you :)
Thanks again guys,
Paullie.

It looks to be a medal of Jeanne d'Arc/Joan of Arc. These have peen produced and reproduced over the centuries, but there was a flurry of interest at the beginning of the C20th. She was known as Blessed around 1910? and raised to the Sainthood somewhere around 1922 I think

Not far off, Beatified 1909, Canonised 1920. Should have googled it first. So there were plenty medals struck in those years.

Cool, any idea what the script says around both sides?
Also if it was Minted in 1920's did the purposefully make it look older than that?... The other fact I forgot to mention is that it is "21Karat" not the "Plumb 22KT" the you might expect from a more modern coin..?
...Another thing that I have noticed is: the oxidization is occurring in "Patches" rather than uniformly across the surface... Which "may" indicate that it was formed using "natural gold nuggets" rather than modern refinement methods...? This possibility may provide an answer as to why it is a slight "out of the norm" 21KT...?
...lots of questions guys, thanks for your patience.
Paullie.

I've just realised something. On the medal Joan is shown with a halo, meaning that she is Saint Joan. Which dates this to C20th, probably deliberately created in an antique style.

Good to know, thanks :)
Have you noticed at the very top of the Coin there is a Plaque with a Crown and a decorative script capital "B" underneath it?
Joan of Arc served under King Charles VII... I can find no correlation between him and a letter "B"... And the "Latin" is very odd... Normally Latin has a "flow" or "keys to abbreviations" but from what little I know... This is something different?... A bit of a mystery?

@paullie, first welcome to CCF!

Second, see below prior post for additional information. Looks like you both have the exact same piece, which seems kinda odd.

Also, this Coin has ALOT of script, its really trying to tell you something... Yet there doesn't seem to be any mention of Joan of Arc anywhere?
I made the same assumption, it seems the logical ID... So what is the significance of the Capital "B"...
Its an enjoyable mystery!

That may be the guy that sold it to me... I purchased it from the States... But was told he knew "nothing about it" and he had received it from an estate.
Grrr!
