I picked this one up for $46 as a regular 1909P VDB; has some carbon spots but still a really nice coin. Anyone know how carbon spots affect grading?

Another testament to being able to recognize varieties from what I've learned here at CCF, the knowledge you gain on this forum is Top Notch!

The answer to your question on carbon spots and grading (and therefore value) is subjective, but I think it's safe to say that the fewer the better. In your case the spots are quite pronounced and would reduce a TPG grade by at least a point, imo. As to value, well - it has to hurt.
