The D on the date looked really thick to me. I also
noticed the B in Liberty seemed different? I compared it
to a few others I had and the lettering is or seems much
thicker, but is it because it's a copper penny?

Keep in mind that the mint mark is added to the die at a different time than the creation of the die. The punch is had punched, so locations can be in that areas of the location of below the date and to the right of the bust. Also the punching can vary vertically. if the punch is not pressed into the die deeply, it can be weak. If the location is not an exact falling over a previous punch, it can create a RPM, or just an enlarged mint mark with no separation. I believe that is what you have. A widened mind mark punching. (no RPM)
