I try to get to my local B&M at least once a week, lest I miss anything good. A little background on this particular store : Owner has been the biggest buyer in this area for over 20 years (coins, gold and silver bullion, jewelry) And since late last year when silver and gold really started going up, this place has been a madhouse. Got so bad they now hand out numbers . Four full time employees, one part-timer, and one foreign coin expert in once a week. So busy they have not packaged anything new in four months- their desks are piled high and the inventory under the glass is getting thin. Back to the point here...There will be a new part timer there this Tuesday morning MEEEEEE I work in construction and periodically work slows down and I get some free time, I offered them my time, and they happily accepted...I am like a kid in a candy store ! I might not be able to sleep Monday night

Good luck to you. I am not sure I would like to learn all the inner workings of running a coin shop. I cannot tell you exactly why I feel that way. Perhaps it is the changing of an avocation to a vocation. But it might be neat to see what deals they may cut to an employee. I am sure the experience will be a life learning one. I am curious though on one point. Is all the activity you refer to people selling their gold or buying it? Oz

I would say 80% or better of the customers are selling, there are very few buyers. Since I will probably only do this for a month or so, I don't think I am in danger of getting sick of looking at coins, I do that now anyway !
I already get everything I buy at bid prices, sometimes better , so yea- it will be interesting what kind of deals I can get...All the workers are friendly , I know most of the regular customers, should be alot of fun....famous last words....

Sounds like a great opportunity to increase your knowledge. You might even be able to find some nice specimens before any of the other regular customers have a chance to snatch them!

All such positions depend on the individual I guess. I know someone that worked in a fast food place where they specialized in Hot Dogs. Will not even look at one now. A lady I knew, deceased now, used to work at the place where they made Baby Ruth Candy Bars. She always looked like none of those candy bars ever made it past her mouth. She used to bring home boxes of them all the time too. So working around coins could become something you never want to see again or you may well become a fanatic.

'B&M' = Brick and Mortar. He is going to work at a local coin store, a real one, in a building. Hense the term, 'B&M'.

I was a little worried BM stood for bowel movement! Definitely not where I'd work. Bricks and mortar sounds much more appealing!
