I was recently able to add an 1827 JR-2 (flat top 1 variety) to my capped bust dimes.
I am really excited about this, and consider myself fortunate to have now 3 of the 10 scarcest Capped Bust Dime varieties in my collection:
1821 JR-2 (found in my 'junk' box)
1824/2 JR-2 (pointed top 1 in date), and my latest acquisition
1827 JR-2, flat top 1.

All of my examples are low grade, but the 1827 is within the 20 best known, and the 1824/2 JR-2 ranks probably a little higher. These are just scarce coins, and in any better shape they get very pricey as one may expect.

Your opinions are welcome.

Hello,

I thought that this thread would be the most applicable one to help me differentiate between the 1824/2 regular strike and the 1824/2 JR-1.

When I look at these CoinFacts photos it appears that the two aforementioned types of coins are very similar: both having the presence of the flat tipped '1' on the 10 C etc.

Please explain how to tell the two apart:

1821: VG8 but details due to the deep dig in the right obverse field. Left field is also disturbed.

1824/2: F12 with nice full rims. Would be 15 if the hair above the eye was a little sharper.

1827: VG10. Weak reverse rim holds this back from Fine imho but the coin is sharply struck with all stars raised way above the fields.
