The Royal Mint - Christmas is a time to get together, catch up and enjoy family traditions at a special time of year. Many Christmas customs involve coins; they've been left in children's stockings for centuries thanks to St Nicholas. Another famous tradition that dates back to Victorian times is 'Stir-up Sunday'. On the last Sunday before Advent, the customary Christmas pudding is made and many people still follow this tradition that began in Victorian times.

Every member of the household takes a turn to stir the mixture and make a wish, before a sixpence coin is added to the mix. The person who finds the coin in their Christmas pudding is believed to have good luck in the year ahead. This year, The Royal Mint is releasing a modern six pence just in time for 'Stir-up Sunday'. This new coin denomination adds a contemporary twist to the festive custom. Each silver six pence is year-dated, a great way to remember 2016 and add a touch of tradition to your Christmas preparations.
