Received this in a bank bag of quarters, this Quarter weighs 5.7g, A regular identical year and State Quarter weighs 5.9g.
I have weighed 45 of these and they all weigh 5.9g on my scale.
The one in question is 5.7g on my scale.
I took it to a local coin shop, the opinion was no plating applied, and the fact that it is less weight.
any other ones like this out there?
I Can't find any info on it.

It is in mint tolerance but the edge makes me think it is something

5.7 is the weight it should be-no idea why the edge looks like that. Dont why they would say no plating applied

I have a couple of those from other years. Apparently it's simply the clad layer covering the copper core. Not too common, but from what I've been told, also not considered an error. Could be wrong.....

Also thinking it could be plated with a very thin layer of something and it would not add all that much weight but its not missing a clad layer-edit: sorry I got confused by your post thought you were saying it was underweight and they told you a layer is missing but I misread-obviously you took it there because no copper is showing. I still think it could be lightly plated tho or what elonu said but ive never heard of that myself and to the forum

The coin has been plated with platinum. They sell sets of gold ones and platinum on TV. When they plate them, that ruins collector value. How to tell if you have on? I make a mark on the reeds with a razor blade and you can see the copper coin on the edge:

They are not silver. The silver coins will have the 'S' mint mark on them. (There were clad and silver ones on the States quarter series)
