Popped out this little beauty Saturday afternoon...never found an 1885 before...soaked it overnight in distilled water and this is how it looks now...

Nice find. Where do you usually search for coins in your metal detecting journeys.

Those coins are super tiny so I would suspect may have gotten lost due to their tiny size waiting to be found again

I have a couple but from the early 1900's, but they are same size, but I don't have any like the one you found.

Nice job.

What a fantastic find! Imagine what year it was when it was touched and what the times were like back then.

I'm also interested in the sorts of places in general that you choose for searches with a metal detector, not asking you to give away any specific locations.
Rest in Peace

Wonderful example. It's great to return those numismatic finds back to the world of the living.

almost looks like a large 5/5 in your picture. a close up of the date would be a great help in identifying the variety. Nice Find!

Amazing that after all these years in the ground it's showing no apparent environmental damage and superb luster.
Maybe it fell out of a dealer's pocket into a peat bog on their way to coin expo

Yes, great video. I can imagine the excitement, not knowing what it is that you're about to find. Good luck in your hunting grounds, find one and there might be more.

I was able to get back to the same spot on the weekend and found some more old coins. I made another video on my channel ( Silver in da hole )

Check it out...I found my first seated coin...beat up pretty bad but I still love it.
