Nice of you for sure. Way to many would say nothing. Many probably have said nothing with situations like that. I would just send them back. For all you know it was a little kid that ordered those other dimes. As noted, you may end up getting something from the seller but if not, feel good that you are not one of the bad guys.

IMHO, you really did not have a moral dilemma in the first place since you did the right thing in the end! Even if the seller does not toss you a bone for your honestly, your reputation will still be worth something; at least to everyone here!

"But I was tempted..."

Totally normal--but it's how you acted on it that defines who you are.

I'm sure most of us could share similar stories. I could mention a tempting moment where I chanced across an unattended, unlocked display from the Atocha shipwreck. In the display was a huge, heavy gold "money chain"...at least 1kg of gold and worth perhaps 6 figures. In retrospect, I'm not happy that I was tempted for a few seconds, but ultimately I knew I couldn't live with both myself and that plunder, lol. I chose valuing my conscience over a hunk of gold. I would've made a lousy pirate I guess!

1 kilo of gold - 20 silver dimes Yea, I guess I see the similarities. All kidding aside, that must have been some chain. I think anyone would have been tempted.

I guess the differance is in what you mean by 'tempted'. Tempted as in you thought, "I could take that and no one would ever see." Or tempted like you started to think of the quickest way out, and where you would hide if they started looking for you? Slight differance I think...

LOL...it was just an example that we all can be taken aback by tempting moments--I'm not trivializing your situation. Yeah, so I guess my temptation was different, but in an abstract sense similar: getting something for nothing--but ultimately we respected ourselves too much and did the right thing.

What goes around comes around. May you be on the receiving end of somebody else's honesty many times over!

Way to go!

Absolutely!

Temptation is a part of being human and a consequence of Free Will. IMHO, there is only a moral dilemma if the temptation causes you to obsess over the possibilities when the clear answer is to take the honest path. And the key word there is obsess... everyone has temptations. Pondering the wrong choice gives making the right choice more value. I feel that being honest by choice is better than just automatically being good; the latter could be out of fear of reprisal and not genuine honesty.

Way to go for sure.

It's funny but I think it's the times when sellers mess up that I form my most lasting impressions of them. I've had several ebay mix-ups where the seller sent me the wrong item and each time they've gone above and beyond to make things right. I definitely keep them on my favorite sellers list. On the flip side I once placed an order with one of the large online supply sellers and they included an extra 100 square quarter rolls. It was a pain to get back to them and they didn't "throw me a bone" - I haven't been back.

way to go! I wonder if I would have done the same? moral issues can be frightening at times...yesterday a customer forgot to give me 7 bucks back on my card, I got to work and realized I was short 7 bucks. I had to go to the atm and get cash to make up for the loss, but today I visited the customer and explained what happened and they gladly gave me my 7 bucks--i was really impressed. I hope your good deed is paid forward.

Way to go ,Morgan! Some of the problems with the world today--in my opinion--is that TOO many people have no conscience! Temptation has been around as long as mankind. You proved to yourself/others that you're stronger than that temptation. Way to go! Life is one step at a time. Now for test #6,422 of the temptation book....

I too sell on e-bay. It is great to see that there are some honest people out there. You made 3 people feel great with one good deed. You for being honest, the seller for covering his mistake, and the real buyer, as he will get his item. If the seller doesn't do something to reward you for fixing his mistake, he is low class at best.
I sent the buyer the wrong item once, and he was good enough to let me know. He sent it back right away, didn't even ask for the shipping, so when I sent his item, I also sent him his his money back. E-bay is a great thing with the right people.

a similar, but kind of reverse story......I bought a couple lots of silver from a seller on ebay, and paid for them imediately. I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I received the shipment, which included 2 $1 bills as refund for the bulk shipping charges! YUP...added to favorite sellers fer sure!
