Well, last week sometime I 'won,' woohoo, a Merc Dime on ebay. Nothing special, I just wanted it. Well, yesterday I get it in the mail, and not only is my dime in it, 20 other silver dimes are in it! I thought for a minute that perhaps I had unknowingly bought them, but upon further inspection the seller had accidently sent me someone else's purchase. At first I thought, "I will just wait for them to email me and ask" but alas my conscience got the better of me and I emailed them this morning and offered to either send them back, or purchase them at the other guy's price, which ever they preferred. I dunno, I just hope when I screw up I send my stuff to someone like me...

Very noble of you my friend! These things can happen sometimes and you definitely made the righ decision. You would not have been wrong to keep your mouth shut and keep them (his mistake afterall) but I know I would definitely have lost some sleep thinking about it.
If I were the seller, I'd fix this (send the other winner his correct coins) and then toss you a few free-bees as a thank you. Good guy this MorganNoob is!

You did the right thing. You have to remember, most of the folks selling on ebay are just like you and I.

I disagree. It may have been the seller's mistake but what about that poor buyer who spent the money and wouldn't have ever received their purchase? Good call Morgan!

It's good to know that some people still have their original mint luster.

You definitely did the right thing! As a seller, I once had two rolls of quarters running simultaneously on ebay - one was all different circulated and the other was a BU roll of 60's. When the payment for the BU roll came in, I sent the wrong roll. When I got the payment for the circulated roll, I realized my mistake and emailed both buyers explaining what happened. I refunded both shipping amounts and sent $10 to the first buyer to cover return shipping charges and inconvenience. In the end, both buyers were pleased. It is not whether you make mistakes; it's how they are handled when they happen.

Man am I glad to see the responses to this one. Most everyone knows that I fall on the side of "reputable to a fault". Many times in the past, I have taken glancing blows because of my belief that if someone is not sure about the worth of their coins, it is unethical to take advantage of them. Offering Gray Sheet, or even a little less (10 to 20%) is fair for everyone. It is simply wrong to give someone a third of the value or less for their coins. OK, bullseye is on my back again, fire away. What really frustrates me is when I read a post here that someone saw a dealer give some rube 20 cents apeice for what he called junk Merc dimes and calls that horrible. Then are excited when they do the exact same thing. Sorry for preaching, just got back from having a stress test and I guess it stressed me out. Jim By the way, Morg, you just keep leading by example, well done.

Well I am one of those people that the seller sent the wrong item to, and the other bidder got away with a better item that I was suppose to get.
Oh well, the guy is in China and I am here in the US, so I doubt that guy will send the item back. Seller hasn't responded back yet. I am trying to get a discount or the amount the other guy paid for his auction that I got instead...

You did the right thing. I would have done the same, since it was an honest mistake.
