Query About An Odd Florin Coiin - Coin Community Forum

bpalmer New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 08/21/2016 10:41 am I have an old well warn 1944 Australian Florin. It has a hole drilled in it and concave in shape. It appears to be have been part of a pendant, necklace, bracelet, etc. In the center of the coin are three circular punch marks that appear to be the work of a jeweler or silversmith. I have wondered for years if my hypotheses are true and I have always been intrigued by the presence of three overlapping punch circles rather than just one. Might anyone have any opinions or conjectures about these circles? Report this Post to the Staff

The three circles are not simple punches; if you look at the top ring, for example, it goes over the left ringat the left, then beneath the same ring at the bottom. It was clearly intended to represent a chain of interlocked circles, rather than simple punches - kind of like the Olympic rings. The Oddfellows fraternity uses three interlocked rings as a common symbol; there might be a connection there. Regarding the odd fellows, I would expect the rings to be more spread out horizontally. To me the rings more resemble Booromean or Trinity Rings.
