Quote:I'm going to try to snag a set before they sky rocket. I think APMEX may have the contract to sell them. I was reading on another site that when the 2015 proof/reverse proof set came out it was $199. After an hour it jumped to $299 and kept going up every hour. That's crazy. Never heard of a site increasing their price so dramatically so quickly. Talk about being at the right place at the right time. Wonder if there was any hint or heads up given as to when they were going on sale.

The 2016 proof/reverse proof set is supposedly coming out tomorrow on APMEX at 12:00 pm EST. Not sure if true or not so I guess we'll see.

Well they did go on sale. Started at $199 and now it's up to $249. Wonder if it'll keep going up. They still have last years set listed at $499....crazy! Hey Yup, what do you mean by "the gold ones should be cheaper when they finally come out"? Cheaper than the APMEX set or cheaper than previous years?

I'm going to buy this 16' reverse/proof set because it'll double in short order. If I pay $260 today, it'll be easily going for $500 in a month. They did it with the 15' set.
If you get it graded and it grades out well, it could be worth 1500 BU js!

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with this set. It's still at $249 though APMEX did get twice as many to sell this year. There's supposed to be 500 of the 3 coin bankers set released as well. I called up Don Bailey and asked him about those and he said to call him back later this month. Said the ones he was slated to get were already spoken for by long-standing customers of his. Wouldn't give me a price though.

I bought mine tonight, really excited to get this set. Anytime you're dealng with a mintage of 1500, they should be absorbed into the market in short order. Not only that, but they should appreciate too.

what I meant was the gold bullion Libertads will be cheaper with this drop in gold. I am in the market for some 2016's and so with the drop in gold, they will be cheaper than if they came out 2 weeks ago. as far as the APMEX set, I think its a dud. I have a rule. I never ever buy exclusive coin sets from a mint that are done in conjunction with a dealer. This set is an APMEX exclusive, at least as I can tell.

I would like to get a 1/4 oz proof gold libertad. I wonder what the premium would be on a raw one?
Yup, if you hear anything on their market entrance, please let us know.

I see. How much of a premium do you figure on a 1/4oz libertad? And yes keep us posted when you hear anything. Been seeing some of the ones posted on youtube and they look really nice. As far as the APMEX set it's all about that reverse proof. Not a big fan either of the collaboration with APMEX but at least it still looks nice. I like to display them plus I don't think it'd ever reach a price that I'd feel compelled to sell but.......never say never, right!

@wyzguy
I am not sure on what premiums are running, never have looked at them long enough to know. I personally prefer the 1 oz and 1/2 ounce gold pieces when I collect bullion and am not even sure what those run.
If memory serves me right, both Don and MCM run auctions of these when they come in. So I will be regularly stalking to see when they offer mexico gold Libertads. Hopefully they have quite a few offerings for all of us.
I know most of them are probably going to be graded by both Don and MCM and what I like to do is go for MS 69 and PF69s, I dont care to buy for the extra cost of the 70s.
But yes I will keep an eye out and post as I find 2016 gold Libertads!

Hey guys, I'm new here but I started a chat with someone at APMEX a couple of days ago asking about the gold Libertads. They said we are about a month out for releasing them.

If anyone purchase the 2016 proof/reverse proof set from APMEX make sure to take a good look at your proof coin. There's been multiple complaints of milk spots on the proof versions. I got two sets myself and after seeing the vids some were posting on youtube I took a another look at mine and noticed one of my proofs had milk spots as well. Think you only get 14 days after receiving them to contact APMEX for an exchange/refund so make sure you do it before then.

Thanks Wyzeguy, BTW, I ordered mine the first day they were available and still don't have them. I'm hoping to get them soon.
