Despite the potential for a 'bumpy ride' for gold over the short term, Randgold CEO Mark Bristow says the metal will turn the corner. 'I don't think, in my 20 years, I've ever seen the stars so aligned for a better gold price,' he told Kitco News at the annual BMO Metals & Mining conference. However, the longtime miner had some harsh words for the industry players. 'I think the mining industry is a lot healtheir today than it was this time last year but I get the feeling that everyone's forgotten about the promises of being disciplined.'

A "better" gold price would be under $1000. People just aren't buying jewellery outside of weddings; this industry is a big dud. Without demand for the metal it doesn't matter how much you pull out of the ground or recycle.

Ha! This entire bear market for gold we've heard variations on this same theme...just a little bit longer and gold will shoot the moon! Well it hasn't happened and each time gold has dropped further, with a few dead cat bounces along the way. If you believe in the fibonacci sequence theory, which I do, it's not going to return to a bull market until we drop to around $750 or so, if only very briefly.
