These are usually low mintage which in turn, can mean an impressive ROI. My next gold piece will hopefully be one of these.
Some of these Libertad pieces have been very successful investment stories, chiefly because of their small mintages.
I think Libertad coins will be a big thing in the future. They are arguably the best looking bullion coins around.

nawww the best bullion coins around are Somalia elephants.
I dont believe nor buy that story about mintages being low that in turn, the Libertads sky rocket.
I remember calling the old man Don Bailey the "mexicano zorro" of Libertad coins lol and he gave me this hard sell on how the mintages are so low that the prices can sky rocket blab blab blab...
Case in point, I believe or 2014 or 2015 Libertad gold coins, ended up being much higher in their numbers, deflating the values.
I just want to collect some because I do have silver Libertads but no gold and its time to get some.
That said, I am aware SOME years are very scarce and some are limited but low mintage coins do NOT always equate with a big ROI.

Hey Yup, I did a little research, it seems like it may be the Gold proof Libertads that have done fairly well.
I was going to buy a one ounce gold proof coin but literally couldn't find any on the whole net. There is a 2008 gold proof libertad series on the internet for sale. It comprises a total of 1.9oz of gold that's fir sale. It's a gorgeous set, stunning, for over 3k.
I'm sure it's a great investment if you were to buy and hold. I think the mintage on those are absolutely tiny?

Yes, that does sound right, the proofs do tend to be very small mintage and I have seen some hefty premiums on them.
I do like the sets, veryyyy nice. I have noticed like Scottsdale and who else is it... I THINK Don Bailey also and MCM have a few sets each year they put up for auction.
My only ISSUE is, and dont get me wrong I do like sets, but generally speaking, for re-sale, seems like in general coin wise, sets dont all do well.
I am tho in the market for Libertads, gold that is. If I see 2016 gold Libertads come up I will post here for you and anyone else like me that is looking for them.
It seems like any minute now they should be coming to market...

Hey Yup, another thing I didn't mention is that the silver proofs have done really well. It seems they too, have these small mintages that predictably create a huge premium and secondary market within a year or two of being released.
I love these coins, I've spent several hours today on the net browsing and trying to figure what to buy. I think the Libertads might be my favorite coin.

Yea I hadnt kept up with silver Libertads in a while. I have them from the early 2000s, proof and unc, but as prices nose dived, I stopped collecting. I do like the proof silver Libertads, very nice coins
I was looking at that set too, from 2014, I think it is the first 7 silver piece proof set is it? I was looking at secondary prices and while they have backed off, they remain well above their issue price, a nice set. I would probably buy one if I can find one from a dealer I trust at a fair market going price.

So where's a good place to buy Libertads? I read another thread of someone who was looking to buy some but said that at the time ebay was over-priced. I saw the 2016 set is out and going for around the low to mid $200's. Is that typical for these?

Regarding where to buy Libertads, talking proof silver and gold here, is ebay. I've called around all of the major coin shops in my area, Louisville, and no dice. I asked the owner on the phone last week if he ever sees proof Libertads, he very flatly said absolutely not. I've recently bought the four coin 2016 silver proof series, a la carte. I bought them from Scottsdale Silver on ebay. I had to bid on them...it cost me a total of $119 for the onza, 1/2, 1/4,1/10, not bad, but not graded either.

I do like how that complete set in the box looks though you're obviously paying extra for all that packaging. Do you have any info as far as release dates? Are there announcements like the ones sent from the US mint or is it just a matter of checking ebay or other sites and once you see them then you know they've been released?

I do not have a clue on release dates. I recently read where the 2016 two coin, proof/reverse proof set is scheduled to come out very soon.

I know they came out with the two coin proof/reverse proof in 2015. Apparently to celebrate the 90th Anniv or something. There's also a 3 coin set (BU/proof/reverse) that apparently was only passed out to employees of banco de mexico. Both of these sets are going for a pretty hefty price on ebay.

I see Scottsdale and MCM tend to auctions for both silver and gold libertads, so keep watching these two names.

I came really, really close to.purchasing the two coin proof/reverse proof set, but it's expensive. They are going for $500+ raw and $1250+ graded. This is for the 2015 set, the 2016 set is supposed to be out soon. I'm going to try to snag a set before they sky rocket. I think APMEX may have the contract to sell them.

Yeah it's a shame you can't buy directly from the Banco de Mexico. I was on their website and looks like you can only buy from their distributors. Wish they had a release schedule as well.

Yeah I agree, they haven't even announced their 2016 mintage numbers yet. I'm hoping they are tiny like most years. That's what makes these coins a really good place to invest your money.
I love the American Silver Eagles, they are stunning but when you pump out 1 million proofs, they have small chance to increase in value. The Libertad proofs have numbers around 4k-10k, think about that for a minute. It's got to be an excellent opportunity, plus, they're gorgeous.
