Found this strange looking coin and would like to know what it is. It has a silver colouring compared to the usual goldish colouring of a normal £2 coin and seems to be slightly heavier. It has no writing on the outside edge and the lettering on the faces stand out more than usual. Very unusual and doesn't look like a normal fake

Yep, sorry, it's a fake.

Not a very good one, as you say, but hey, from the counterfeiter's point of view, a counterfeit coin only has to work once.

These were the early Chinese fakes.
You don't happen to live around the Leeds/Bradford area do you ? They've been appearing there the past couple of years.

Here they are on The Fake Pound Coin Database - http://thefakepoundcoindatabase.co..../2P-T08.html

and here's a similar one with spelling mistakes - http://thefakepoundcoindatabase.co....P-T08V2.html

and finally here's the Two Pound Coin page where you can click through to see all the known Technology Design & Commemorative Design coins - http://thefakepoundcoindatabase.co....opounds.html
