Hello all,

I was recently coin roll hunting and came across this nickel:

I can definitely see doubling in the BERTY in liberty, and in the date. I'm not sure though, is this a real DDO coin or just die wear? Thoughts? I know the pictures aren't that clear, it's so small and I don't have a great camera. I'm going to try and get clearer pictures, and I'll post them if I can get them.

Thanks!

Since I see it on the mint mark also I do not think it is a DDO. I think it is MD and die wear.

The Die Deterioration will cause the devices to spread out and the slight shift in tooling will cause that 'shelf' to appear adjacent to one side (normally) of a device.

There may also be a die gouge by the date (9 and 8). No premium for this specimen. Experts will be along to render a final verdict.

Good luck on the hunt!

Thanks for all the replies!

After doing some more research and looking at the coin some more, I agree. It does look like die wear and MD. I'm still quite new at coin collecting, and I was just excited to see something clearly doubled I didn't really know the differences between a MD coin and a DDO coin, so guess I learned something new today! Sorry for the confusion, and thanks again everybody.
